THE STORY
Charaka Samhita, Balya Chapter
“Bala is not brute strength—it is the quiet power of tissues fully nourished, the reserve that remains when effort has been spent.”
Charaka Samhita, Chikitsasthana I
Charaka's Balya (strength-giving) herbs were prescribed to warriors and scholars alike. Ashwagandha ('smell of the horse') was named for the stamina it conferred, while Arjuna bark was legendary for sustaining the heart through prolonged exertion. Saffron and Moringa complete the nutritive matrix.
